How I Work – Design as a Collaborative Process
Through my work as a freelancer, as well as my experience in agencies and in-house teams as a Brand Designer and UX/UI Designer, I’ve learned one key thing time and time again:
the better clients and designers understand each other, the better the outcome.
Good design doesn’t happen in isolation. It grows through dialogue, trust and shared understanding. But how can clients who have little or no prior exposure to design understand complex design processes and design-related questions?
My answer is simple – and essential:
Working Together – Using a Shared Miro Board
That’s why I love working with a shared Miro board.
Miro is a digital, collaborative whiteboard that we can use together in real time, no matter where we’re located. Think of it as a shared creative space where everything comes together.
On this board, I collect everything we develop throughout the process, including:
- Research
- Competitor analysis
- Moodboards
- Best practices
- Designs and prototypes
- Design systems
- Copy and wording
- Brand identity workshop outcomes
- Design workshop outcomes
This makes the entire process transparent, easy to follow and accessible at any time. Nothing gets lost in emails or presentations – everything lives in one place.
Working Through Workshops – Creating Clarity
In addition to day-to-day collaboration, I work closely with my clients through a series of workshops, which you can also download here (available in English and Spanish).
1. Brand Identity Workshop – Building the Foundation
Every project starts with a Brand Identity Workshop.
Its purpose is to create clarity and encourage a deep, strategic reflection on the brand:
- What does the brand stand for?
- Where does it come from?
- Where does it want to go?
- What are its core values?
Why is this so important?
Because without a strong foundation, design becomes arbitrary. A clear brand identity provides direction for design, communication and decision-making, ensuring that design doesn’t just look good, but feels right.
2. Design Workshop – Making Preferences Tangible

Next comes the Design Workshop.
Many clients don’t actually know what they want – or they think they do, but struggle to articulate or justify their preferences.
Design is the bridge that connects us – but only if we learn how to communicate through it.
In this workshop, we challenge assumptions, clarify preferences and conduct a light market analysis together:
- What is the competition doing?
- Is it good practice or bad practice?
- How can the brand stand out?
- Which elements inspire us, and why?
The clarity created here becomes the basis for any visual design. It provides focus, confidence and a shared direction.
In Summary – How Great Design Is Created
My way of working can be summed up in a few key principles:
Because great design happens when clarity meets creativity – and when clients are not just brief-givers, but true partners in the process.
